Energy System: Anaerobic Capacity (BJJ)
Difficulty: Development

Intention:
Compounded with the Christmas Eve dumpster fire, I was pretty sore after grappling again. However, this session served it’s purpose which was to get a few quick, hard rounds, and explore some creativity. Nothing fancy, not long and grueling, almost like a rebound / shakeout session. Blood flow > shock > play > go home.

Work:
45 minute session
5 x 5 minute rounds

Reflection:

What worked well: I’ve got my eye on a tentative competition date in 5 months. As such, I’m starting to consolidate techniques and if I’m working “creativity” it’s still within the scope of the “pillars of my game.” For me, that’s wrestling and leglocks. The two compliment each other well strategically.

What didn’t work: Apparently everyone was geeked up on candy canes, and wanted to roll hard. The air was cold, and I was still sore, so the “gut punch” traumatic reverb from Christmas Eve was still strong.

Plan for next time: As I drove home, I was thinking about weekly splits. 3 sport days, 1 hard conditioning day, 1 moderate conditioning day, and 1-2 active recovery days is pretty solid. If you can keep the sport sessions to the low side of moderate you might be able to avoid having to take passive rest days.
