Energy System: Anaerobic Capacity
Difficulty: Cultivation
Intention:
While adding a bit more “cultivation” vs. “rebound” sessions, even slightly, the edge has been taken off my grappling. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s important to be aware of before the session starts.
Today, I wanted to roll hard, but it ended up being fairly moderate with an emphasis on technical analysis and tactical brainstorming.
The emphasis on “perfect” rounds (or as close as I can get) — that is, “better” — remains (e.g. not getting lost in more / harder).
An important lesson for the late blue belt I was working with in the private lesson was that “This is the stage in your BJJ career where silver-bullets stop working (in his case against very athletically gifted peers). Developing your own physicality is a good idea (enough to retain composure under duress), and so is reviewing fundamental (defensive) principles to build a base off of.”
The Japanese / Peruvian clip is included because it’s something I found myself playing with today.
