Energy System: Anaerobic Capacity
Difficulty: Rebound
Intention:
The goal here was to start tying together ground and standing concepts. In my classes we’ve been focusing on head positioning and inside control to “counter-wrestle.”
It turns out that these are good principles for just about everywhere, including the butterfly guard situations Kyle has been covering.
So, tonight we got a little more dynamic by covering standing entries to leg entanglements. The initial (single leg) set ups utilized our head / inside positioning; and we maintained those when entering the single-leg-x position.
Warm Up:
~ 5 minutes each:
- Head Pummeling (1 minute rounds)
- Push-Pull-Fake Drill (1 minute each person)
- Greco-Pummeling (for underhooks, 1 minute rounds)
Work:
~ 15 minute creativity work: butterfly guard to leg-lock entries
~ 20 minutes drilling standing leg-lock entries
~ 10 minutes positional sparring (one person laying supine, top player standing over them at the armpits, double ankle lock grip, no leg connection).
