Energy System: Anaerobic Capacity

Intensity: Development

Intention:

Something Kyle has been incorporating that I like is the overlap between positions. Where we commonly work “first to score or submit” from both typical and atypical positions, he has been getting more specific with “win criteria” (e.g. chest to chest, even after you sweep).

It was a tough session for me. Monday’s endurance session left me more sore and smoked than it should have and guys were wanting to get after it tonight. I needed that mental push though, some rounds with guys getting on the gas and not letting me off the hook.

That obviously creates opportunities to evaluate my game and strengths or weaknesses to focus on in the coming months. It also raised some questions about diet and recovery (specifically stress and carbs).

Warm Up:

  • 5 minutes standing grip fighting
  • 10 minutes drilling / creativity work with chain submissions (side control)

Work:

  • 15 minutes drilling mir lock
  • 15 minutes drilling butterfly-half to armbar variations
  • 15 minutes positional sparring (without submissions)
  • 15 minutes positional sparring (with submission)
  • 5 minutes live sparring from bad positions
