Difficulty: Rebound
Intention:
Guard passing is a natural progression to work after take downs, assuming you encountered some resistance during the transition and didn’t land a “clean” takedown to a pinned position.
Personally, I need to work on my loose / outside passing, but we had been working single-leg-x (SLX) positions for pull-sweep transitions to note that sweeps function the same as takedowns — getting you on top.
Either way, the video below has some nice counters to that position, and most of them were featured in tonight’s class.
Warm Up:
- 2-2-2 drill
- any single leg to SLX transition
Work:
- estima / sock lock counter
- step-over pass (SLX)
- repeat the same sequence from the ground (both people on their butts, e.g. one person swept from SLX, then the other person works the counter and pass).
