Energy System: Endurance
Difficulty: Rebound
Intention:
Tonight’s class was the transition from wrestling to guard passing. As I’ve mentioned, I’m personally trying to incorporate more loose / outside passing.
We had a lot of brand new people in class, so the Jason Rau fundamentals in the video below fit quite nicely. Class got to about where my personal training from open mat last week picked up.
I set us up to get from standing to open guard passing, and naturally the guards that progress from there are R/DLR if the standing person remains standing (if the consolidate to the ground we frequently find half guard, butterfly, or their variants).
Warm Up:
- 5 x 1 min, push-pull-fake drill
- creativity work: tipping seated opponent to back
Work:
technical focus tonight was on high-step passing which there was a link to last week, but the below is a great intermediate since we had several brand new people in class tonight.
positional sparring:
- butterfly (no grips on bottom) vs. standing top (hand on bottom’s shins)
- reverse De La Riva (RDLR)
bad position:
- mounted with at least one underhook
