Overview:

  • Quarterly Goal: Emphasize better rather than more or harder.
  • Monthly Focus: Open Guard Passing
  • Weekly Objective: Complete aerobic support program.

Intention:

Yesterday’s session was brutal. Morpheus scored my recovery status at 60%. I challenged myself to stick out all, but the last 15 minutes of “bad positions in class.” The goal was to continue to breathe through my nose in order to attempt to regulate intensity.

Warm Up:

  • drill x 10 minutes
  • 5 x 1 minute “hug / collect-hips” game
  • 5 x 1 minute “hands-to-floor” game

Work:

  • 5 x 2 min (1 min top, 1 min bottom): standing vs. seated, Goal: chest-to-chest or chest-to-back
  • 5 x 2 min (1 min top, 1 min bottom): standing vs. seated, score-or-submit

Reflection:

What worked well:

  • Fitness is not my problem, if I can at least not get wasted by our most athletic guys, operating at 60% recovery.

What didn’t:

  • Fighting into someone that wants to chase you down is a better option.
  • Similarly, “wading” or “marching down” someones (passive) guard is a good idea, but good wrestling principles (stance and head position) need adhered to with someone fighting into you.

Plan for next time:

  • Until someone’s on their back, I need to be thinking wrestling (lower head or snapdown, and inside armpit control).
  • Don’t try to flee right away, fight into someone, and counter their response (with a different attack, or disengage if they let off).
