Overview:
- Quarterly Goal: Emphasize better rather than more or harder.
- Monthly Focus: Bad Position / Addressing Deficits
- Weekly Objective: Upper Body Attacks (arms, neck, back)
Intention:
Today’s session was supposed to be “rebound intensity” with some light drilling and tactics discussion, followed by a private lesson that was to emphasize on “staying calm” during sparring.
Warm Up:
- 30 minutes: tactics discussion and very light drilling
Work:
- Private Lesson: focusing on rolling blindfolded.
Reflection:
What worked well:
- I took my turn rolling with my client blindfolded as well and it was unique experience to say the least. Naturally, my movements were much more measured and cautious which is to be expected. I also made a lot more positional mistakes which points to how much we use our eyes for maintaining balance, targeting, and strategy.
- My client and his wife also thought is was a valuable exercise that they each took something away from as well. Specifically, it did indeed temper my client’s recklessness. In fact, I caught him several times closing his mouth and regulating his breathing intentionally!
What didn’t:
- I’m not sure if I had too much caffeine, or went harder than I thought yesterday, but my heart rate didn’t stay where I wanted it. The recovery “cost” was single digit percent (according to Morpheus), but the intention was to land a net positive.
Plan for next time:
- While I have templates laid out for classes, open mats, and fitness sessions for the next 8 weeks, they may need tweaked (at least on a daily basis) to ensure that those precious rebound sessions are in fact putting energy back in the tank and not just a slow leak.
