Overview:

  • Quarterly Goal: Compete at ADCC Open Atlanta
  • Monthly Focus: Wrestling to Leg Entanglements
  • Weekly Objective: Leglock Breaking Mechanics

Intention:

This month I’ve shifted to “sharpening the sword” to fine tune my wrestling and leg locks. The weekly focus has also shifted to breaking mechanics within that. Tonight’s intention was to implement some gripping details and work on flow through entanglement transitions.

Warm Up:

  • Help partners prep for competition tactics via:

    • mount escapes to single-leg-x, and
    • triangle position / finishing options.

Work:

We explicitly did not set a timer, as to control intensity and let each round go as long as we felt was helpful that we could focus on.

I took:

  • 3 turns attacking
  • 2 turns defending

Then finished with :

  • 1 x 5 minute defending angle locks
  • 1 x 5 minute defending back strangles

Reflection:

What worked well:

  • The drill was super fun and gave us a lot to think about, particularly without going at live speed.
  • I felt like this was a perfect session as far as intensity and structure went.

What didn’t:

  • Morpheus clocked me at -2% recovery.

Plan for next time:

  • I definitely liked the structure and slowing down. Having some very clear and specific objectives I think also helped contain the pace because you had to slow down and think.
