Overview:

  • 8-Week Focus: Compete at ADCC Open Atlanta
  • Weekly Objective: Wrestling and transitions.

Assessment:

  • Sleep Quantity (hours): 8
  • Sleep Quality (1-5): 4
  • Mood (1-5): 3
  • Soreness (1-5): 2

Training:

  • 5 x 1 minute: catch-hips scrimmage (warm up)
  • ~15 minutes drilling: knee-cut pass, x-pass (transition)
  • 5 x 6 minute: competition pace rounds (ADCC scoring)
  • 3 x 2 minute (1 minute attacking, 1 minute defending): back escapes

Review:

  • Difficulty (1-10): 8
  • Performance (1-10): 8
  • Mat Hours: 1.5
  • What worked well:
    • Comp Round 1: Shot during points, lost the scrimmage and ended up on half-guard bottom, won by toe-hold on secondary leg from double-outside ashi.
    • Comp Round 2: Shot during points, got sprawled on, did good getting my butt up from front-headlock position, which setup a Victor’s roll when my partner tried to go behind; won by outside heelhook from double-outside ashi.
    • Comp Round 3: Shot during points, got sprawled on and caught in a guillotine; pulled guard to attempt dog-bar kneebar which earned me a sweep or pass (I don’t think I would have been penalized for pulling guard into an attack). I didn’t submit, but played good tactic, racking up points between passing, knee on belly, and mount.
    • Positional Round 1: Finished my partner, and escaped.
    • Positional Round 3: Escaped, didn’t finish my partner, but played good tactics to accumulate points.
  • What didn’t work well:
    • Positional Round 2: I escaped successfully, but so did my partner; no finishes.
    • Overall my conditioning felt good, I tried to be mindful of actively controlling my breath during rest rounds, but this will take some focus and something I need to be mindful of working through a bracket.
    • I could have done a better job increasing the pace throughout the first periods. I stuck to my strategy, but stayed at the same pace. Ideally I want to be wearing down my opponents during the first half.
  • Plan for next time:
    • Saturday is the last hard day of camp, so I just want to clean up my strategy and keep the hard rounds to just a few like tonight.
    • Monday will be the final technical adjustments.
    • Wednesday will just be for light movement.
