Overview:

Training:

Teaching class:

  • 5 x 1 minute: “snap drill” hand fight and collar ties
  • 5 x 1 minute: “tap drill”; variation to touch partner’s heel from standing position
  • ~15 minutes drilling: ashi garami entry from double seated position
  • ~15 minutes drilling: ankle lock breaking mechanics
  • ~15 minutes drilling: ashi garami entry from static square standing opponent (plus finish)
  • 5 x 1 minute sparring: “first to stand” drill from double seated position (no submissions)
  • 5 x 1 minute sparring: “first to stand or submit” drill from double seated position

Review:

  • Difficulty (1-10): 5
  • Performance (1-10): 8
  • Mat Hours: 0.5
  • What worked well:
    • Everybody got a good sweat and some technical work.
    • The positional sparring went well and allowed people to actively develop questions and see what was / wasn’t working for them.
  • What didn’t work well:
    • Class was a mixed bag. Some people struggled with the entry, some struggled with the finish.
  • Plan for next time:
    • Next week’s class will review the same material and follow up with some different or more advanced entries depending on what the class can digest.
