Review:

  • Difficulty (1-10): 3
  • Performance (1-10): 6
  • Mat Hours: 0.5
  • What worked well:
    • Again, it was nice to go back to fundamentals and apply advanced concepts.
    • Adding the “shark tank” component to bad position training was a nice touch.
  • What didn’t work well:
    • One student, who’s been a bit of a problem, was trying to hurt people out of fear. Rather than beat him up, he got time out. You don’t get to play if you break your toys.
  • Plan for next time:
    • I need to work on my guard passing. After watching my competition videos again, I was too eager and rushed things which lead to the off-balances. I also got too focused on and telegraphed attacks to the legs which allowed my opponents to sit up (again, off-balancing me). I need to sell the pass before looking to attack the legs, unless an obvious opportunity presents itself.
